
atti was born in Boston,
Massachusetts in 1966 and grew up in neighboring Brookline. He comes from a
family of artists and architects. The most notable was John Insco Williams who
painted portraits and panoramas in the mid 19th century and was a student of
Thomas Sully.
Matti has a degree in
mechanical engineering and worked in the field of architecture and engineering
design. He also invented a wire tensioning device, U.S. Patent no. 5,101,735,
for light rail transit systems.

Matti always had a strong interest in the arts and
showed a desire and a keen ability to draw at a very young age. He has attended
numerous drawing and painting courses, taken private lessons, workshops, and
demonstrations throughout the years. The list includes Boston artist Robert
Cormier's figure drawing class, private lessons with Kim Mellema, and workshops
with artists Donald Demers' and Joseph McGurl.

His most influential teacher and whome he studied with for five years
is the highly skilled and knowledgeable painter Tom Ouellette. Mr. Ouellette
has his studio in the historic Fenway Studios of Boston and has a teaching
studio at 450 Harrison Ave, Studio 216, Boston.
Matti's interest is in still life, seascape and
landscape painting. His style is representational and realist with a quiet and
pleasing view of his subject. Among his favorite painters are Chardin, Degas,
Caravaggio and Henri Fantin-Latour.
His paintings are in private collections in the USA, Asia, and
Europe. You may also find his works at select galleries in the Boston area,
Newport, Rhode Island, Cape Cod, MA and Paris, France.
